Before the Games Even Began
Few days before the games even began, the host of the Olympics, the town of Sochi had seemingly not been properly constructed. Reports of hotels with unfinished lobbies, rooms, and incorrect plumbing were spread all over twitter by English journalists who had landed to begin reporting before the olympic games started. In some cases, it was so extreme that some journalists reported that there were exposed electrical wires hanging in their showers, the water coming from the sink contained poisonous chemicals that they were told to not use on their faces, and that they were encouraged not to flush used toilet paper down the toilet, as the hotels’ systems could not handle the use, and instead place it in a bin next to the apparatus. With seven years to prepare, the question remains: why weren’t they ready?
