Sparrow Bar and Kitchen, an undiscovered eatery on Haight St.
Tired of the same old food options? A new restaurant, Sparrow Bar and Kitchen, opened on Haight, across from Street Taco, between Clayton and Cole. Just a five minute walk from Urban, this fresh, hip restaurant is open for lunch, 11am-3pm, Tuesday through Friday.
Sparrow “cuisine is (seasonal) modern American cuisine that celebrates the social values … of Haight Ashbury,” said owner Veronica Lopez. We serve “food that is comforting yet intelligent in substance.” This is reflected in the the exquisite taste of the food, as well as the quality. Sparrow “acknowledges the integrity in using locally produced commodities and supports local farms.” They also use organic produce as much as possible.
Sparrows menu “reflects the unique vibrancy” of The Haight, offering a range of options such as a chefs chorizo burger with kimchi and fried egg, a grilled kale salad with Quinoa, roasted hazelnuts and salted rosemary ricotta and a fried green tomato sandwich with candied bacon, aioli and frisee served on focaccia loaf.
The price of some of these items may be daunting, but I often find that if you split what you order and its cost with a friend, you are satisfied rather than stuffed, and you only need to pay around $7 a head. In addition to this, I am glad to announce that Sparrow will now be giving a 10% discount to any Urban student that presents an Urban School ID!
82 percent of Urban students eat on Haight Street at least once a week or more, so it is important to acknowledge all our options. This hidden gem reflects the values and taste of Urban students, offering well-sourced, sustainable food in a funky, cool, new surrounding that gives off an incredible vibe.
